Abstract

The intricate interaction between digital technology and mental health, analysing both positive and negative impacts. With the growing incorporation of technology in daily life, its impact on communication, learning, healthcare, and social relationships continues to increase. On the one hand, technological developments like telehealth, mobile apps, and internet-based therapy have enhanced the availability of mental health services. Conversely, overuse of digital technology has been linked to cognitive overload, social isolation, anxiety and behavioural addiction, notably among susceptible populations such as youth and the elderly. In this article, five significant research studies are summarized to discuss how different demographic populations feel the mental health effects of digital technology use. The findings highlight the dual capacity of digital technology, emphasizing its potential benefits to mental well-being while also revealing its heightened risks when used improperly.
